About Raymonda Samawi

^{New-York-based fashion designer Raymonda Samawi’s passion for couture took her, at the age of 20, from her native Lebanon to Paris, the world capital of bespoke fashion. Samawi apprenticed at Carven Haute Couture, one of Paris’s august design houses, where she honed her mastery of the craft of custom draping and fitting. In this fertile setting, Samawi’s own artistic sensibility came into being. Samawi returned to Lebanon and designed clothing for clientele ranging from royalty desirous of Samawi’s couture creations to Revlon advertisements to music video directors looking for custom elegance and style.  Now based in Eastern Pennsylvania, she is still in the business of bespoke sewing for a wide range of clients, with more talent and sewing experience than ever. “Couture means you should feel wonderful about unique clothes that also reflect your individual style and personality. It’s a design apporoach that’s more personal than commercial, and something that’s impossible to find in a store. That belief is reflected in everything I create. And bringing back the bespoke tradition and providing the type of individual attention of a forgotten age is one of the great pleasures of my work.

Most people have almost forgotten what couture should mean: to be able to ask for anything — from specific fabrics or providing your own, or requesting a particular lining, buttons, or even thread to be used. Even more, it means being able to request special alterations or bringing me your own design– whether a specific outline or a picture of something that caught your eye.”
